J. Patrick Smith

John Patrick Smith (born 1970) is a Network Engineer working as a contractor at Air Force Systems Networking on Gunter Air Force Base. He is the father of two children, Hannah and Johnny and the husband of Angela Louise (Light) Smith.

Biography

Smith served over eight years in the U.S. Navy. His first assignment, following boot camp in 1989, was aboard the USS Jack Williams (FFG-24), where he served as an able seaman, performing general ship maintenance as well as serving as a Ship's Control Console Operator, steering the guided missile frigate while underway at sea. Following nearly a year-and-a-half of service aboard the Jack Williams, Smith was reassigned the the Defence Information School which was located at the time on Fort Benjamin Harrison, Indiana. After successful completion of the Basic Journalism Course in and the Shipboard Information, Training and Entertainment Course, and advancement to Petty Officer 3rd Class, Smith was assigned to the Navy Broadcasting Detachment 8, Keflavik, Iceland in October of 1992. Toward the end of this tour of duty, Smith advanced in rank to Petty Officer 2nd Class and was assigned to the role of Assistant News Director.

In 1994, Smith was assigned as Public Affairs Officer for the Navy Recruiting District Headquarters, Montgomery, Alabama.
